Trichology is a\u00a0scientific discipline\u00a0that involves the\u00a0study, diagnosis, and treatment of hair and scalp disorders\u00a0using scientific research, advanced technology, medical and cosmetic treatments.\n<\/p>\n

It focuses on understanding the structure, function, and diseases related to hair and scalp, as well as diagnosing and treating conditions like hair loss, dandruff, scalp irritation, other hair-related issues and the factors that affect hair health (like nutrition, lifestyle, and hormones). It incorporates the techniques, the use of treatments or products to improve hair and scalp conditions. <\/p>\n

Trichologists are experts who provide non-medical solutions for various scalp and hair problems, working independently or collaborating with dermatologists and other healthcare providers. Certified Trichologists offer individual consultations and may work with medical professionals in hospital services, enhancing cosmetic and therapeutic treatments. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

They can also act as expert witnesses in legal proceedings related to hair damage from hairdressing, offering specialized testimony on the cause, extent, and nature of the damage. <\/p>\n

The concept of Trichological Consultancy was first introduced in London in 1902 with the founding of The Institute of Trichologists, which offers one of the most prestigious and internationally recognized diplomas in the field. Today, certified trichology education programs are offered by various institutions across the globe benefiting professionals from different fields of health care , cosmetic and hairdressing. <\/p>\n

As of 2021, efforts in the UK aim to standardize Trichology education and establish it as a recognized allied healthcare field with clear guidelines. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
